It felt like the Sounders of old as the boys in Electricity had chances but couldn’t finish in tonight’s CONCACAF Champions League match. Sanna Nyassi hit the post early in the second half, Levesque failed to capitalize on an open header and the Sounders still can’t put away their corner kicks. The speed of Nyassi again looked dangerous but without the speed of an injured Steve Zakuani on the opposite wing, no one was there to follow loose balls or deflections off of crosses. At one point in the second …

BAYAMON, Puerto Rico – The Puerto Rico Islanders ended their six-game winless streak at home in the CONCACAF Champions League, getting a pair of first-half goals by Jonathan Fana and beating CD FAS 4-1.
It was first victory by the Islanders since defeating Cruz Azul in the first leg of the semifinals two seasons ago. It was only their third victory in their last seven matches, including a 4-1 victory over the Los Angeles Galaxy in the Preliminary Round.
The defeat left FAS, winless in the Salvadoran …

I’m feeling bad for Andy Iro and Eddie Gaven right now. It’s never a good feeling to have a goal called back (Iro) and then set up the other team for the game winner in extra time (Gaven).
TORREON, Mexico – Second-half substitute Ivan Estrada scored three minutes into second-half injury time and earned Santos a 1-0 victory over the Columbus Crew Tuesday in the CONCACAF Champions League.
Columbus midfielder Eddie Gaven tried to clear a cross into the area but only deflected it to near the 18, where Estrada hit a …

LA CHORRERA, Panama – Fidel Ceasar scored his first goal of the season in the 40th minute and Arabe Unido defeated a nine-man Toronto FC 1-0 on Tuesday to maintain its home dominance in the CONCACAF Champions League.
Arabe, which lost its Champions League opener 2-1 on an injury time penalty last week in Salt Lake City, won for the fifth time in seven games in the confederation championship, having lost only once.
The result extended the futility of U.S. Major League clubs in Panama, who remained winless in four games in …

After being banged around at the Olympic Stadium by Marathon of Honduras for the first 17 minutes of Thursday’s match, the Seattle Sounders drew first blood in what ended up being a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Marathón. In other words, Seattle’s unbeaten streak of nine matches (6-0-3) over all competitions has ended.
Seattle scored the go-ahead goal when Fredy Montero pushed the ball up the right flank to the Marathón end line where he toyed with his defender until …

The Puerto Rico Islanders reached the group stage of the CONCACAF Champions League on Wednesday despite a 2-1 loss to the Los Angeles Galaxy. The Islanders advanced 5-3 on aggregate after winning the first leg of the preliminary round last week in Los Angeles 4-1. David Foley’s penalty gave the Islanders a 1-0 lead in the 33rd. But the Galaxy equalized in the 37th when Puerto Rico defender David Horst, standing near his goal line and attempting to clear a shot, kicked the ball off the leg …

SOUNDERS FC: “El Flaco” advances Seattle to CONCACAF group stage
It must have been the rain. Three hours before the Sounders were scheduled to face AD Isidro Metapán in El Salvador, the skies opened, soaking the national stadium in the capital San Salvador. In other words, ideal conditions for the Seattle-based team.
After starting the Major League Soccer season trailing the conference-leading L.A. Galaxy by as many as 15 points, the Seattle Sounders came roaring back into relevance Tuesday night with a 2-1 aggregate defeat over Metapán, …
