The New York Post is reporting that Barcelona has allowed Rafael Marquez to leave for free, but only if he moves to the Red Bulls.
“The one midfielder we are getting you know about,” GM Erik Soler told the Post.
“Within a week to ten days, we should (announce a signing),” Red Bull coach Hans Backe said over the weekend, although never mentioning Marquez by name. “We would get a new player to play at the bottom of a diamond (midfield).”
How will you feel if NYRB pulls this off and they have three Designated Players? Are they turning into the NY Yankees of MLS? Will Marquez bring in the Mexican fans or will he be booed by us Yanks that remember his head butt to Cobi Jones and kick to Tim Howard?

Extremely talented player who can bring fans….this is a no brainer and its just plain exciting that players with diverse and exciting sets of skills want to be a part of it…NEW YORK NEW YORK!!!! I mean how many defenders can the average fan name? A few sure but this guy is rare – oh, and props to New Jersey too for Ironbound and the home of RBA!!!!
I like that MLS is going after Marquez, I just wish he was going to Chivas USA so that I could have more reasons to hate on them.
