Via Soccernet:
Manchester United signing Javier Hernandez scored against his new team while playing the first half for old club Chivas Guadalajara as the Mexican side won 3-2 in Friday night’s friendly.

Freddie Ljungberg to join the Chicago Fire

Freddie Ljungberg ended the speculation today and announced on his blog that he will be joining the Chicago Fire of Major League Soccer. All of a sudden, the Fire’s trip to Seattle on Saturday August 28th is going to be interesting. I’m pretty sure that the MLS All-Star will be booed by the Brougham faithful on his return to Qwest Field. ESPN needs to pick up this game because the whole nation needs to witness a match of this proportion.
The Fire gave up a conditional selection in the 2011 or …

Sounders are “Electric” in First CONCACAF Champions League Match

After embarrassing performances by the LA Galaxy against the Puerto Rico Islanders, and the MLS All-Stars against Manchester United, MLS needed a solid win to get back some credibility. Although the scoreline didn’t  reflect it, the Sounders dominated the El Salvador champions with numerous chances and brilliant attacking play. In similar style to the Sounders US Open Cup match against the LA Galaxy, the Sounders were able to attack down the flanks with Sanna Nyassi and Miguel Montaño. This combination has produced great results and Nyassi made his mark on …

Álvaro Fernández is in Seattle with the Sounders, but where’s Freddie Ljungberg?

Uruguayan midfielder Álvaro Fernández is watching the Sounders FC CONCACAF Champions League match from the coaches box tonight. Several reports surfaced a week ago that the World Cup player would be joining the Rave green but things have been quiet in Seattle on both Freddie Ljungberg and Fernández. With reports that Ljungberg has interest from five clubs in Europe, it looks like changes are being made in the Emerald City.

CONCACAF Champions League: Cruz Azul vs San Francisco Highlights

Cruz Azul are kind of like the Buffalo Bills of the CONCACAF Champions League. They were last year’s runner-ups to Pachuca and are a heavy favorite in their Preliminary Round series against Panama’s San Francisco.

CONCACAF Champions League: LA Galaxy vs Puerto Rico Islanders Highlights

When I saw the starting lineup for the LA Galaxy I fixated on the fact that both Landon Donovan and Edson Buddle were named in the starting eleven. I figured LA came to play and we would see another MLS win on the night. Wow, was I wrong! What I didn’t even consider was the was the defense for LA, they’ve been so solid all year that I didn’t give it another thought. I guess missing Omar Gonzalez and Donovan Ricketts is that big a deal for them. Embarrassing result for the Galaxy and the league to say the least.
