I ran across this video of the Scotland Swamp Soccer finals and I’m not sure what to say about this. Teams like Swampdoria, Mudchester United and Real Mudrid battle it out at the annual Swamp Soccer event and I had no idea that there is a world championships. Is it a real sport? Is it only a way for overweight players to keep up with the fit ones? Should only skinny chicks be allowed to play? At least they have clever names. What do you think?

Paraguay kept its cool through a shootout and advanced to the World Cup quarterfinals for the first time, beating Japan 5-3 on penalties Tuesday after a 0-0 draw.

David Villa finished off a move of Spanish perfection to finally break down Portugal’s defensive wall Tuesday, giving the European champions a 1-0 win and a spot in the World Cup quarterfinals.
Villa scored his fourth goal of the tournament in the 63rd minute, while Cristiano Ronaldo again failed to inspire Portugal.
A trademark Spanish passing move found Andres Iniesta in the center. He flicked the ball through to Xavi Hernandez, who backheeled to Villa, who was bordering on being offside as he charged in on the left.

Van Marwijk said Tuesday he called a team meeting after reports in Dutch media that the striker said midfielder Wesley Sneijder should have been brought off instead of him.
“I will never accept anything that could upset the next match,” Van Marwijk told Dutch national broadcaster NOS.
“I spoke to Robin and …

FIFA will look again at introducing video technology to assist referees after president Sepp Blatter apologized to England and Mexico for the officiating errors that helped eliminate them from the World Cup.
Blatter said Tuesday that FIFA will reopen the debate on high-tech methods to improve decision-making on the pitch following the mistakes in Sunday’s matches in Bloemfontein and Johannesburg.
“Naturally, we deplore when you see the evidence of referees’ mistakes,” said Blatter, adding it would be “a nonsense” for FIFA not to look again at goal-line technology with its rule-making …
