The Carling Cup final started off with a bang on Sunday. No sooner than the 5th minute, Aston Villa got on the board with a James Milner penalty. United responded with a Michael Owen goal in the 12th minute but the goalscorer was subbed off before halftime due to injury. Owen made way for substitute Wayne Rooney who saved the day by placing a header past American goalkeeper, Brad Friedel in the 74th minute. Click here for the match report.

I think fans all over the world held their breath’s as soon as JT and Bridge crossed paths. You could definitely feel the tension before the kick off when Wayne Bridge snubbed John Terry’s hand shake during the prematch line-up. Tensions grew even more as Chelsea went down to 9 men, Michael Ballack and Juliano Belletti both saw Red cards within 5 minutes of each other. A massive 8.8 magnitude earthquake struck Chile at 1:34 AM Eastern time. For those of you wondering, yes, Chile qualified for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa by finishing second in CONMEBOL after Brasil. Our prayers go out to the people of Chile.
