2014 MLS Tifo of the Week – Week 5 Tuesday April 8th, 2014 21:37

The week 5 2014 MLS Tifo of the Week goes to Union Ultras in LA for their display during the Super Clasico this weekend. I love the message, especially after dealing with all the crap they went through under Vergara. Hopefully the future is better for them.

Honorable Mention

First, still in LA, the Black Army had a decent display that read, “Los Angeles SC/The Dead Shall Inherit the Earth.”  Another nod to the rebirth of the club.

Finally, Emerald City Supporters had a great display away at PDX this weekend. The message reads, “MoneyBag$ Merritt/Like Father, Like Son.” It also had another banner that read, “Same shit stadium, twice the price”, as you can see below. Rumor has it stadium staff took it down fairly quickly.

no doubt the chivas fans are struggling with their soon demise… I feel for the shit hand they have been dealt over the years. but how can that display be tifo of week? I can’t ever read the union “ultras” message. it looks like crap!!!! what is the criteria to be tifo of week?

I agree with Mighty. It’s not “we feel sympathetic for your club” of the week. It’s tifo of the week. Seattle’s honorable mention beats out their display!

I sort of question your judgement. All 3 displays featured this week were shit. If it’s done with a spray can on some sewed together sheets it is a shit display.

Exercise some judgement. If there isn’t a good display for the week consider not awarding anyone. It’s pretty clear nobody deserved anything this week.

I disagree completely. I think these displays are being judged on their messages and not visually, which is ok with me. Do protest banners really need to be visually stunning to get their message across? Just my two cents.

Michael… the protest banners are better messages and better looking than what won tifo of the week. Tifo should be judged on both message and their look. the Chivas display looked like garbage and the message was so cliche

What happened to ESPN’s web based wkeely MLS highlights show with Hopkins? I really enjoyed that and was hoping if it stayed around long enough, they’d build that segment into Sportscenter. IIRC, the last episode I saw was the first week of this season.
