I’m sorry, but that NY tifo isn’t anywhere near as good as the Seattle one. Not even close. SMDH.

  • Shanana August 20, 2012 at 10:43 pm

Not to mention that the ECS tifo is literally 10 times the size of the NYRB attempt.

  • Son of Mecha Mummy August 20, 2012 at 11:30 pm

Apparently we need to make more diss tifos or something. Not really sure how the NYRB one is better in any other way.

  • Magnus August 21, 2012 at 2:49 am

why did NY deserve to win?

    QUALITY > QUANTITY

    CREATIVITY > BLAND GENERIC IDEAS

we made the most of what limited resources we have and made a tifo that was designed around a creative “hook” that we customized to take a playful jab at the opponent (and all of Cascadia in general). if we had the kind of budget the ECS has, our tifos would be blowing them out of the water in every respect. but we don’t, so we make the most of what we’ve got and try to be as creative, clever, and in-your-face as we can…and that’s what we did this week.

2011 Cascadia Champions? LAME. That would be like us making a tifo to celebrate our string of Atlantic Cup “titles” over DC United, or our Emirates Cup “victory.” Not creative AT ALL, and kind of unbecoming to celebrate a pseudo-honor in such a grandiose way. But whatever…Seattle DID invent the idea of “patting yourself on the back,” along with everything else that they seem to take credit for.

    • elDirty August 21, 2012 at 7:20 am

The Emirates Cup was a VICTORY, and if we do defend it in 2013, there should be that limited tifo for what we can fit on a plane and do in 20 seats!

  • Fred Jones August 21, 2012 at 5:40 am

Sure, the ECS tifo was big, but the South Ward tifo was more creative. And what is this complaint about “diss” tifos? Ridiculous.

  • Jeff August 21, 2012 at 6:34 am

The Seattle display looked nice, and would have won vs almost any other display, but the gangs of new york reference, tied on with the flags message and smoke had a lot more layers. Gangs of NY makes it more than just a dissemination tifo. Instead of crying that it was bigger and you deserved it because of that raise your game on the creativity, tip your hat and keep it moving. Have a cry in your coffee and stfu

  • Rooselk August 21, 2012 at 8:50 am

Magnus: Cascadia Cup is lame? Sorry, but that Cup competition has a history. And there were 55k people at the CLink on Saturday that provide the evidence that you don’t know what you’re talking about. But, then again, I wouldn’t expect anything less from someone who thinks that the depiction of burning Cascadia flags is somehow creative and original.

  • giaco August 21, 2012 at 9:29 am

Did anyone not expect Seattle to whinge if they didn’t win something?

Good job ECS, keep selling the ULTRAS life and celebrating yourselves.

  • WEcameTOdrinkWEcameTOsing August 21, 2012 at 10:47 am

@Magnus “if we had the kind of budget the ECS has, our tifos would be blowing them out of the water in every respect. but we don’t, so we make the most of what we’ve got and try to be as creative, clever, and in-your-face as we can…and that’s what we did this week. ”

Did you know budget directly relates to the amount of supporters you have? The ecs’s tifo displays are created with funds donaited and raised by our supporters. So maybe you guys should get more fans then you might have a bigger budget and wont have to use the sheets of your bed. And can you at least hold the banners straight. As for us patting our self’s on the back….”No one likes us, no one likes us, no one likes us WE DONT CARE.” Hatters gonna hate, epically when there jealous.

    • Bob August 21, 2012 at 12:21 pm

If you didn’t care you wouldn’t be crying you didn’t win this week. I’ve seen SouthWard tip their hat to opponents TIFOs, not bitch that theirs should have won.

Seattle has great scale, but i have to agree with some of the others that the smaller Empire Supporters Club TIFO is better. It incorporates a topical current event (wildfires in Cascadia) with a pop culture refernce fron a New York time period piece (Bill the Butcher in Gangs of New York). Its well painted and they used the smoke approproately to tie in the smioldering of ashes.

Its a quality creative design, and one of the better from this year i think.

  • Reality August 21, 2012 at 1:30 pm

The NY tifo was NOT creative. It was a line from a movie. That’s done ALL THE FRAKING TIME you ignorant noobs! The Doug flags were done completely wrong, making you look even more stupid, there is a TON of empty, unused space on the center banner, and the message banner is at like 45 different angles and levels because NO ONE is on the same page. Just utter SHIT and a COMPLETE EMBARASSMENT to MLS supporters in general. It looks like it was made and pulled off by preschoolers.

The Seattle display was not only both vertical AND horizontal, but used two distinct different styles of choreo, with the main banner being painted with knowledge of what they were doing (unlike NY who look like they were drunk while painting). An yes kiddies, size DOES matter. It’s why the world over, you do your biggest displays for your rivals.

Christ, the ignorance of true supporter culture in America is a joke. But here’s a hint, just because you attend a match, or buy a jersey, IT DOESN’T MAKE YOU A SUPPORTER!! There is a TON more to the CULTURE, and clearly, this site along with those in NY, have a long way to go to understanding that.

    • rbjdbkilla August 21, 2012 at 1:53 pm

Just because I chose NY’s tifo over SEA does not mean I don’t understand supporter’s culture. I think the bias from some of the supporters groups is pretty blinding. Earlier in the year, I was told I pick them too much from the NW, now because my opinion liked NY over SEA I don’t understand supporter’s culture? That’s unfair. The ECS tifo is good, the NY tifo is good, I choose one over the other because I thought the ECS tifo was not creative, at all. It’s VERY well done, but the NY tifo made me snicker. It pissed of ALL of Cascadia. I liked it more.

    • Bayern Til I Die August 24, 2012 at 8:29 pm

Actually, I think the Doug that was done by the RB Supporters looks closer to the real thing, than Timbers Army did back in 2010. http://timbersarmy.org/2010-kings-of-cascadia-overhead

Either way, it was a bit more witty, and for another SG to get mad and bitch about the TIFO is foolish, buck-up and do better next time. I don’t care about funds, or size, it is all about the message. RB SGs giving all of cascadia the perverbial FU, was quite humorous.

It was even funnier when Portland blew that 2-0 lead! I mean way to show what Cascadia brings to the league!

  • what a joke August 21, 2012 at 1:47 pm

I’m a Portland fan. I hate Seattle. I don’t give them credit even when due. With that said you would have to be either blind or just dumb to look at these two displays and say that the NY is better. And i agree with Reality in saying this is not creative. A line from a movie and flags on fire….. yeah they really went outside the box there. Yes Seattle’s could have used more detail, but at least theirs looks clean and doesn’t look like a bunch of kids got together 30 min before the match with some crayons.

    • anyone can make up an identity August 22, 2012 at 6:30 am

I’m a Seattle fan. I hate Red Bulls. But that is easily the best tifo I have ever seen. And Seattle’s is easily the worst.

See how it is easy to make shit up?

  • Diablo Blanco August 21, 2012 at 3:08 pm

I tend to dislike “negative” tifo but the NY one was darn good–and it’s even negative against my team.

Multiple panels, a banner, and smoke. It really had a theme and it delivered.

The Seattle tifo was, what, some goth/bro and tinsel? It looks like it was put together from a mad lib. The size is impressive but it’s rather unremarkable. It won’t even be one of ECSs top 5 of the year.

  • NA August 21, 2012 at 3:24 pm

I think every argument here is irrelevant. Especially when you insult tifos that people spent their own time to make. Respect that both did a great job, and they do it because they love it.

  • Ian Stuart Little August 21, 2012 at 3:43 pm

Seattle and NY, you both suck, Get over it!

  • Pelvis Resley August 21, 2012 at 8:54 pm

LOL!!!!!!! It’s just finger painting and arts and crafts,,,,,Everyone needs to,,,,,,RELAX……lmao……

  • Ian-Southward August 22, 2012 at 12:45 am

Just remember if your props are gone it’s ’cause NY took it!

  • Chuckie August 22, 2012 at 6:44 am

    Bravo Sir,
    Well said

  • Michael F. August 22, 2012 at 6:56 am

    What does tifo mean?

  • Brian August 23, 2012 at 8:18 am

I’m sick of Seattle fans thinking they invented supporters culture. The only reason you have a well supported team is because of the trial and error of the original MLS teams. It’s easy to come in after the fact, after all the issues have been resolved and claim you are the best.

  • Beef Wellington August 30, 2012 at 11:14 am

I’m in ECS and this shit was…shit! Fucking goon and a scarf tifo. Get real. I’d rather shit in my hand and clap before calling that creative.
